Tenses ada 16 macam, antara lain:

Present Tense/Simple Present.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, peristiwa yang biasa dilakukan.

Formula : S + V1 (s/es) + C

Time markers : ever, each, often, always, usually, etc

Example:

-          Khusna studies every day.

-          I usually have breakfast before i go to school.

Present Continous Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang sedang terjadi saat ini atau peristiwa yang sedang berlangsung.

Formula : S + to be 1 (Is, am, are) + Ving + C

Time Markers : now, right now, at present, at the moment.

Example:

-          They are eating in the restaurant at the moment.

-          I am reading news paper now.

-          I am not reading news paper now.

Present Perfect Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang baru saja selesai dilakukan, akan tetapi waktunya tidak ditentukan.

Formula : S + have/has + V3 + C

Time markers : so far, up to now, since, over the past.

Example:

-          Adit has done his homework.

-          Adit has not done his homework.

-          Has adit done his homework?

-          I have seen you in the mall.

Present Perfect Continous Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang dimulai pada waktu yang lampau dan masih berlangsung sampai sekarang, bahkan mungkin sampai waktu yang akan datang.

Formula : S + have/has + been + Ving + C

Time Markers : The same as present perfecr (sama dengan present perfect)

Example:

-          They have been doing their research for five days.

-          They have not been doing their research for five days.

-          Elsa has been working since 2006.

Simple Past/Past Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang terjadi pada waktu lampau.

Formula : S + V2 + C

Time markers : last, ago, yesterday.

Example :

-          We went to Bogor last week.

-          He bought the motor cycle yesterday.

-          I saw him in the river.

Past Continous Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang terjadi (dilakukan) pada waktu yang lampau.

Formula : S + tobe 2 (was/were) + Ving + C

Time markers : when, while.

Example :

-          The boys were playing badminton when we arrived.

-          She was writing a letter.

-          Was she writing a letter?

Past Perfect Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan dua pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang telah terjadi pada waktu lampau.

Formula : S + Had + V3 + C

Time markers : after, before, when.

Example:

-          They had seen me on the restaurant, when i went with my sister.

-          I had brought my sister, after my sister asked me.

-          She had not sold a shoes, before she went back.

Past Perfect Continous Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang terjadi secara terus menerus pada masa lampau.

Formula : S + had + been + Ving + C

Example :

-          She had not been teaching in the school.

-          I had been explaining in the home since 2009.

Simple Future/Future Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang akan datang.

Formula : S + Will/be going to + V1 + C

Time markers : next, in the future, tommorow.

Example :

-          I will go to south korea next month.

-          Sofie will do this paper next week.

Future Continous Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang sedang akan terjadi pada waktu yang akan datang.

Formula : S + Will/shall be + Ving + C

Example:

-          Rita will be visiting your parent.

-          I shall be going to library tommorow morning.

Future Perfect Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang akan terjadi dan selesai pada waktu yang akan datang.

Formula : S + Will/Shall + have + V3 + C

Example:

-          She will have come from Surabaya.

-          I will have made a new book by the end of this month.

Future Perfect Continous Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang akan terjadi dan dilanjutkan diwaktu yang akan datang.

Formula : S + Will/Shall + have + been + Ving + C

Example :

-          They will have been working in the office for 6 month by the next year.

-          I will have been staying here for 7 days by the end for this next years.

Past Future Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang akan sudah terjadi diwaktu yang lampau.

Formula : S + Should/Would + V1 + C

Example :

-          I would come to your home last week.

-          She would invite me at his birthdays in the last years.

Past Future Continous Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang akan berlangsung pada waktu yang lampau dan biasa dipergunakan didalam indirec speech.

Formula : S + Should/Would be + Ving + C

Example :

-          She would be shopping in the market, said my mother.

-          We said that you would be working in Monday.

Past Future Perfect Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang akan berlangsung pada waktu lampau dan biasanya digunakan untuk pengandaian.

Formula : S + Should/Would + Have + V3 + C

Example :

-          If she had studied hard, she would have success last time.

-          If i had gone to his house, i should have met Anne last Sunday.

Past Future Perfect Continous Tense.

Untuk menjelaskan sebuah pekerjaan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang akan berlangsung diwaktu lampa.

Formula : S + Should/Would + Have + been + Ving + C

Example:

-          He would have been teaching there for 7 years by last Sunday.

-          Wulan would have been leaving Medan for 4 years by the end of this month.
